Meet Alex, one of our Senior Support Workers at Lavanda Villa
October 02, 2015
Alex relocated to the UK from Portugal nearly 3 years ago when he was offered a Support Worker role at Mentaur. Here Alex gives some insight into his experiences whilst working at Lavanda Villa in Bedfordshire.
Before Mentaur, what type of industry did you work in?
I had just completed some volunteering work when I applied for the role at Mentaur; I’d spent the last 6 months in Africa, after which I returned to Portugal for a short rest before embarking on a new job search. I was looking for something fresh and challenging, with the opportunity to work abroad again.
How did you hear about the opportunities available at Mentaur?
I saw the role advertised online and thought it would be a great opportunity to broaden my horizons and develop my knowledge. Plus, I’d had some previous experience of working in the UK, so I thought I would be able to settle in quickly whilst starting a brand new role.
What would you say to people considering a role at Mentaur?
Since the day I arrived I’ve enjoyed every minute. Yes, the UK is different from home, but it didn’t take me long at all to overcome the differences. I started at Mentaur as a Support Worker, and now I’m working as a Senior Support Worker after the training opportunities that have been offered to me. It’s hard work and always busy, but I enjoy the challenge and I’m eager to progress my career within Mentaur.
