Mentaur recognised at the LaingBuisson Awards 2016

December 15, 2016

Crowning another successful year of growth and innovation, Northampton based care and support provider Mentaur were named winners of the “Personalisation in Social Care” award at the prestigious LaingBuisson  Awards 2016.

These national awards celebrate excellence and good practise across the entire health and social care sector spanning the entire gamut of public, private and not for profit organisations.

The “Personalisation” award celebrates providers who have pioneered services which have been outstanding in giving their users complete choice and control in the support they receive. Echoing the company core values of dignity, empowerment and independence, Mentaur are humbled and proud to be so honoured for their work in these key areas of provision.

Mentaur has been providing specialist services for people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health issues and associated needs for more than 28 years. With a joint passion for providing a completely personalised service, co-founders Isabel Melo and   Shekhar Mukherji have created a culture which embraces and reflects the principles of dignity and autonomy. In 2007, Isabel and Shekhar co-founded Mentaur Community Support (MCS) to provide greater individualised solutions in housing and community integration for people with disabilities. Mentaur and MCS now form The Mentaur Group, an innovative provider offering a diverse range of services, each tailored to an individual’s needs.

On hearing news of the award, Isabel immediately “... applaud (ed) all Mentaur staff, all of whom personify the caring and forward looking ethos of Mentaur for this amazing award...”. Shekhar reiterated Isabel’s words, saying, “The hard work, innovation and constant striving against obstacles is a credit to the entire staff team. who have made this award possible’.

This is the latest in a long line of awards conferred on Mentaur and Isabel. In 2015, Isabel was celebrated as the “Business Person of the Year” at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence awards. Another significant achievement was receiving the Great British Care Awards’ most celebrated accolade, the “Outstanding Contribution to Social Care” award, presented to Isabel in November 2014.

This recognition comes at the end of another exciting year at Mentaur, with the organisation’s latest facility, Savana, shortly due to open in Northampton. No detail has been overlooked in Savana’s refurbishment and carefully considered design, offering unique “hybrid” support services, including tenancies and shared support. Nestled in the heart of community facilities, Savana represents an innovative and modern care and support model, designed to empower people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health issues and associated needs to live independently.
