Meet Osmar, one of our latest recruits at Mentaur
October 27, 2015
Osmar flew to the UK from Portugal just two weeks ago after securing a position with the Mentaur team to work in our newest care home, Savanna. We spoke with Osmar to find out more about his experiences with us in his first few weeks.
Why Mentaur?
Before joining the Mentaur team I was working in Ghana with the Red Cross, and I was looking for the opportunity to join a company offering career progression, development and longevity. I saw the role at Mentaur advertised and applied straight away.
How did you find relocating to the UK?
As someone who has worked around the globe, I am used to relocating and settling in other countries, plus with my language skills I knew I would already be one step ahead in the UK. However, I was not prepared for the strength of the support given to me by all of the team at Mentaur; they were kind and welcoming, helping me to find somewhere to live in Northampton and ready to offer help and advice at all times.
How have your first few weeks been with Mentaur?
Busy! It’s been great, I feel completely at home and part of a motivated and passionate team, and I’m eager to keep learning and developing. I’ve had the opportunity to gain new experiences quickly, working at MDORC and Evergreen House, and I’m really looking forward to progressing my career even further at Savanna once the care home opens in April next year. Opportunities such as the ones offered to me at Mentaur are few and far between, and it’s already been a hugely rewarding experience.
What would you say to people considering a role at Mentaur?
Since the day I arrived I’ve really enjoyed my time here; I’d say to people that the best thing about Mentaur is very real team spirit shared by everyone. It’s clear to me that everyone thrives on delivering an excellent care service, supporting the people we care for in their own personal development, which is what it’s all about in the end. I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks and months will bring!
